Our Story
My name is Donna Martin Whitaker and I own Toyon Smart Storage. As a Moke Hill Elementary Gopher, then as a Calaveras High Redskin I have ties to Calaveras County including many friends and family who reside here. If you are local, you may have known my father, Doug the barber. He first operated from the log cabin in Moke Hill at the crossroads of Hwy 26 and 12 and later in San Andreas. If you didn’t know my dad, you must know my mom, Nadine who worked for Calaveras County Assessor most of her career and is now a card-playing, square dancing socialite. As far as myself, as my children are becoming more independent, I find my interests are rock collecting, gardening, hiking, repurposing and upcycling old items, and spending time with my dogs and my Mom.
After completing college in the big city of Sacramento, I worked for corporate companies on Capitol Mall the majority of my career. Since my father’s passing a few years back, I have been yearning to return to Calaveras County, to rekindle close relationships I once had and enjoy this wonderful close-knit community. Establishing my own business was the logical approach to reestablish these connections.
